Ethylene alcohol is an organic compound with the chemical formula C2H4O. Ethylene alcohol and acetaldehyde undergo tautomerism and have a large equilibrium constant. Generally, the content of ethylene alcohol is very low. Due to the instability of vinyl alcohol, its polymer form, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), is not prepared by monomer polymerization of vinyl alcohol, but by polymerization of vinyl acetate and hydrolysis of ester groups.
